Essential Need For Business Process Reengineering

This essay will discuss the essential need for Business Process Reengineering (BPR) to be included in the success of an ERP implementation, specifically the role of, steps needed, and results of the BPR. Businesses are often siloes in their functional establishment, but the organization as a whole needs to operate across these functional areas in order to serve the processes of the organization. Management within functional areas are more interested in the measures of success within their functional control, but this leads to issues across the organization with communication and a breakdown of efficiency and customer satisfaction. BPR will look to dissect these silos and implement more cross functional processes that run the length of the company’s value stream. Rather than a narrow view of the processes within sales, services, manufacturing etc., the organization may want to address the quote to cash process that takes you from the initial quote to a customer, through the sales order, manufacturing/procurement, fulfillment/shipping, invoicing to receiving to the cash payment. How does one measure success, part of the reason for BPR is to restructure in order to better measu re success.
